of Minutes
Ken Ferris moved to accept the minutes of the May 15 meeting, second Laurie Esner. The minutes were accepted. No discussion.
President’s
Report
Rick Sadlon conducted introductions welcoming new and former members. He briefly described the organizations
upcoming events. We are in need of a member to act as our organizations recording secretary. If you are
interested in serving in this capacity please see Rick. Rick informed members that we
have been invited to tour the Regional Center of the Arts by Director Evan Pitkoff and hold our November 20 meeting there.
Rick also distributed a complimentary guide “Safety in the Arts”, prepared by the Pratt Institute.
Treasurer’s Report
Ken Ferris reports $1,025 in checking and $5,468 in savings

reminded that our annual Advocacy Luncheon will be held Thursday October 16 at Ann Howard’s Apricots Restaurant.
Guest Speaker is Kenneth Kahn, Executive Director of the Greater Hartford Arts Council.

Wendy Gerbier Connecticut’s official National Anthem Ambassador. Wendy shared the “Oh Say”
project with our membership. “Oh Say”’ is, an initiative of The Gateway Institute , Inc.
to develop an appreciation for our national anthem through programming for school age children to understand the anthem’s

CAEA Report
Andrea Hass was introduced
as CAEA’s new Andrea announced the fall conference, “Art Works”, Monday October 27, Holiday Inn, Waterbury.
The keynote speaker is artist illustrator Walter Wick. Registrations are accepted by mail or online
at caea.net.
Chip
Zellner reported, no real changes in the CT Scholastic Art Award Process. Registration fee has increased to $100. per school.
Information including forms and rules will be posted online at caea.net. Volunteers in all aspects of the exhibition process
will be needed.

CSDE Arts Assessment Initiative
Rich Wells,
music chair reported the Model State Assessment in Composition at the 8th grade level requires revision and will
be pre-piloted again. The 5th grade assessment in Singing is almost ready for benchmarking.
Future assessment development will be decided based on the (content) interest of music educators.
In
visual Art the next Assessment to be developed will be at the 8th grade level and be focused on technology.
Gail Edmonds chairs this committee with co-chairs Ann Cappetta and Cindy Parsons. Members are asked to assist with
the assessment initiative by disseminating and responding to the questionnaire we received from Rich at this meeting.
State Arts Consultant Report
Scott Shuler updated the membership on the very great news regarding the newest proposed graduation requirement in
the Arts which is one full credit. He briefly described the challenges for Arts Education in Hartford and
that he is serving as a consultant in that matter. Scott mentioned that an arts leadership position is “opened”
in the school district which will be an essential role for someone to fill.
Theater and Dance certification are now in the State regulations as is the “soul provider (of
music and art) language” change to “primary provider of music and art education.”
Mud 2008
Alan Sneath announced

President’s
Report
After Vice-President Cindy Rehm thanked the middle school string students and their teacher JoAnna Ferrari, from Simsbury,
Rick Sadlon welcomed members and honored guests. He briefly described the organizations upcoming events.
Rick informed members that we have been invited to tour the new Regional Center of the Arts facility by
Director Evan Pitkoff and hold our November 20 CAAA meeting there. Rick introduced guest speaker Ken Kahn, from the Greater
Hartford Arts Council and later presented him with a certificate of appreciation for his arts advocacy work in the state of
Connecticut.
